Team Ordinary Athlete: Yarbrough, Brian

How I Started Running:

I started running to lose weight around the end of 2011; I started out at about 250lbs and couldn’t run 1/4 mile without stopping. I entered and won a weight loss competition at my local gym in Jan, Feb and March of 2012 going from 228 down to 199. In the process of losing weight I grew to love running and ran my first 10k in summer of 2012.

My Favorite Moments / Biggest Accomplishments:

I have four favorite races:

  • My first marathon in 2013 in Eugene, the town were I grew up and went to college.
  • The 4th 24-hour timed race where I finally finished 100 miles in 23 hours 51 minutes.
  • A local 10k race in Vale Oregon where I managed 2nd place overall.
  • My first (and only so far) sub 4 hour marathon at the Tunnel Vision Marathon in 2018

Future Goals:

Right now I’m trying to overcome Achilles Tendentious symptoms brought on by a bone spur. I’ve run 5 marathon’s In the last 18 months but I’m going to take some time off from marathons and focus on a faster 5k PR.
