Team Ordinary Athlete: Walker, June

Why I Started Running:

I ran off-and-on for years. Initially when I started, I didn’t have a choice. I had joined the Army and had to run. Back in the day, my best time was 13:28 for two miles, now that would be a good time for one mile! I have come to the conclusion now, not to compare myself to my old run times (30 years does make a difference!) I also try my best not to compare myself to others, but that’s still a work in progress!

My Favorite Moments / Biggest Accomplishments:

One of my friends had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She lived in Boise, and I’m in Eugene, so we were not just able to stop-in and say hello. It was October, 2017, and I had been thinking about running again, so I found a half marathon in Boise and signed up. Clarice couldn’t believe that I was doing this for her. I wanted her to know I was always thinking about her. I completed the race and she was so touched and amazed. I also completed the Phoenix half, and again she was so touched. Sadly, she passed away 5/3/18.

Future Goals:

Some half around 9/21/19
Marine Corps Marathon 10/27/19
