Team Ordinary Athlete: Snider, Todd

I started running on December 29, 2009 when I lived in The Woodlands, TX. I had always wanted to run but just never really did it. You know when you first start out it is very intimidating, and going a quarter of a mile is hard, so it took me some time to get it. Thankfully the internet was beginning to boom with information which helped me considerably.

I started with a run/walk thing that eventually got me to running non-stop which boosted my confidence, and led me to join the local running group. They were mostly Speedy McSpeedsters, but a handful of us were middle/back of the pack runners so we stuck together.

My first ever race was the Cap 10K in Austin which was in March of 2010. The guy at my local running store said I could do it, so I did, and I was officially hooked.

My group then invited me to join them for a Rock n Roll Half in San Antonio that November. Never had I felt that kind of pain. It was so great! My first marathon was Houston in 2012 and I swore I would never do that again! But here we are and four are done with two scheduled for 2020.

My favorite moment in running is running the Peachtree Road Race in July, 2019. I moved to middle Georgia in 2016, so I’ve missed my running friends in Texas quite a lot. One of my favorite running partners came to run with me and we had an absolute blast. It was stupid hot and humid so we just took our time and enjoyed being there.

I have two marathons on schedule for 2020 and I’d like to complete at least a 50K before I turn 50. If that happens and I’m still alive, I’d like to find a 50 miler. A flat one. With shade. And a generous time limit!
