Team Ordinary Athlete: Bee, Cheri

My Running Story:

Greetings, My name is Cheri and I am a 50 year old mother of 2 adult children (ages 26 and 34), a newly crowned “GlammaGigi” to my first grandbaby Khaleb who’s almost 2, and I also just happen to be a 10 year survivor of Breast Cancer.

My running journey started at the age of 49 in 2018 when my boss invited me to attend a free 5K training group session with a local running group in our area. Once I started attending the sessions, running became something that I actually looked forward to doing …. (wait, did I just say that?)

The last time that I had run on purpose was for my police academy class back in 1996, so to run a mile non-stop was definitely a struggle. To see the progress that I have made between 2018 and now is something that I am very proud of. It amazes me to see the change in what purchases excite me the most now. Who knew that headlamps, reflective vests, real running shoes, shoe lights and custom fancy bib fasteners could bring one so much joy ? I enjoy setting goals for myself and I’m always up for a challenge.

I currently care for my mother, who has Dementia, and running has become my “me time” and at times some very much needed therapy sessions. My plan is to eventually (with the proper training of course) complete both a half and full marathon one day. I am a very proud member of the 4RUN3 Family/Tribe so this post would not be complete if I did not mention them (Hey Jill and Tim). I am also very honored to be a member of Team Ordinary and very thankful for this opportunity to share my story. “One run can change your day, many runs can change your life.” …. Running for me has been life changing …. Stay tuned !!
