Team Ordinary Athlete: Slavin, Adam

How I Started Running:

Originally started running track in junior high as a 200 meter runner. Found out freshman year I did not have the genetic gifts for that and was told to train for cross country. I became a cross country and middle-distance to long-distance runner in track. After high school I had a 13 plus year layoff from running. Around 2015 I decided to get in shape and managed to lose about 50 pounds running and ran several 5Ks and a couple of 10Ks.

Then in August 2016 myself and family were in a bad car accident and I had to get neck surgery. This sidelined me for a bit and I have gradually returned to running, participating in some corporate run 5Ks in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

My Favorite Moments / Biggest Accomplishments:

My favorite running moment in high school was getting to run in the Cross Country State Championship meet with my team in 1997. My more recent favorite moment was breaking 25 minutes in a 5K for the first time in my 30s back in March of 2016.

Future Goals:

Currently I am training for my first half marathon race on December 8, 2019 the Palm Beach Half Marathon. After that I have the Walt Disney World Half Marathon in Orlando, FL on January 11, 2020.
